Fusillade part 3 “A luxurious depth and width of sound - the acceptable face of Indies…” Hot Press. Ireland. 1985 Smiling, at the Hypogonder club: Attrition’s second album proper from 1985. A blend of cutting edge dancefloor rhythmns and industrial experiments, it was seen by many as classic Attrition. The album featured an expanded line up including Alex Novak (Venus Fly Trap), Pete Morris (later of Psychic TV), and Dutch singer Marianne Teunissen. After the DIY approach of the first album, “Smiling, at the Hypogonder club” was their first high budget production - resulting in increased press and radio play. It greatly expanded the bands fanbase. Original released on the seminal UK industrial label Third Mind records (then also home to Front Line Assembly, In the Nursery, Konstruktivits, Nurse with Wound etc..)This CD re-issue includes as a bonus both the Shrinkwrap 12” single (originally recorded for the cover cassette of the UK’s Electronic Soundmaker magazine) and the reworking of Fusillade (III) from the “For your ears only” compilation in 86. This edition is totally remastered, with added photos and redesigned artwork by Attrition mainman Martin Bowes. Available worldwide through the band’s own Two Gods label."a sumptuous and inviting package of attractive ideas..." Music Week/UK “Lush electronic orchestrations for their own fictious club ( a place where you and me can hear some decent music!). Martin Bowes was joined by a host of other musicians for this album who really meated out the sound. Alex Novak lent his considerably penetrating vocals to back Martin and Marianne, and on 'Feel the backlash' was given free-reign and deadpanned over sparse riffs and reverberating rhythmns. The complete album has a hypnotic feel, whilst also being very 'up', and never losing that trademark stark sinister edge of old…. Though Attrition’s work has continued to excel, it was a shame that the line up of 'Hypogonder' split and further excursions into these minds weren't realised..” MFTEQ. UK. 1995. | |
