Daevid Allen came to England in 1960 and met up with Robert Wyatt whilst lodging with the Wyatt family. Daevid and Robert struck up an immediate rapport, which would ultimately result in the pair playing together in Soft Machine.

Following his enforced departure from Soft Machine Daevid moved to Paris where he formed the embryonic Gong. Gong became a huge success releasing a number of successful albums

Daevid Allen however left Gong in 1975 along with Gilli Smyth and the band would carry on for a number of years without the guiding force of Daevid Allen initially led by Steve Hillage and subsequently in a more jazz oriented direction by Pierre Moerlen.

Glissando Grooves is the latest in the second batch of limited releases in the Bananmoon series of recordings. Each recording is limited to just 1,000 copies and then there will be no more. This release features Daevid playing Glissando guitar a style of guitar of which Daevid is an acknowledged exponent alongside the keyboards of Don Falcone.

Reviews

"...I think that the best album of these is Glissando Grooves that was made with Don Falcone and the Spirits Burning crew. This CD includes 10 instrumental tracks of mostly ambient, floating and exquisite music. Daevid shines with his glissando work and Don Falcone is a genius with synthesisers and production. The long, fine “Lionization” is like by Steven Wilson’s Bass Communion project, but the peaceful but groovy “New Spell” sounds more like the guy’s I.E.M. project. ”Solar Campfires/CelluralPhonics”, on the other hand, is again a more experimental and electronic track. . ”Chiaro Obscura” is rather orchestrated prog. One of my favourites is the little scary and very psychedelic ”ARC – A Real Creeper” that has some narration, pulsating and dark walls of synth, glissando and all kinds of freaking out. The collaboration works perfectly which makes this album a highly recommended one. It is also a good idea to get all the actual Spirits Burning CD’s, latest of which is Found in Nature (also featuring for example D. Allen) that has just been released, and the next one called Alien Injection (featuring for example Dark Sun!) will be out soon."

"...the CD successfully covers many wide textural avenues making this disc a must hear for Gong and Hawkwind fans alike"
Jeff Melton, Expose 2008
