A dramatic love story between the French philosopher Abelard (1079 - 1142) and the niece of Canon Fulbert, Heloise. In order to subdue the passion between tutor and pupil, Fulbert had Abelard castrated. This tragic medieval love story was written by Alexander Pope. Third Ear Band were formed in 1969, managed by Blackhill Enterprises (Pink Floyd, Kevin Ayers, Roy Harper), they soon secured a deal with the Harvest label. They were a regular feature of the free concerts in Hyde Park during the late sixties and early seventies, sharing the bill with their label mates. This is the first time that this recording has been available on compact disc. Third Ear Band are featured on the 5 CD boxed set - Harvest Supper, released in July. The hypnotic drone like quality of their songs, in this context can best be described as medieval chamber music.
