His backing musicians included Aynsley Dunbar, Clem Clempson, Danny Thompson and Rick Kemp. He was hailed as a gifted new singer/songwriter, his second album Fully Qualified Survivor featured Mick Ronson on guitar, it was his work on this record that led to his partnership with David Bowie. Chapman achieved his greatest popularity on the Continent, where his live album Pleasures Of The Street was recorded and produced by Don Nix. This instrumental album was recorded for Coda, the Beggars Banquet imprint in 1987. Heartbeat is like no other album. It is a guitar interpretation of the heartbeat, a mystical river that flows through the veins of life, a brilliant New Age project that defies definition!
