Originally recorded in the 80s for Island Records, An Englishman Abroad includes contributions from Howard Jones, Phil Palmer (Dire Straits) and Trevor Morais (drummer with 60s legends The Peddlers and later in the 90s Underworld).

Produced by Rupert Hine (who at the time was also working on Tina Turner's Private Dancer album and remixes for Howard Jones) the album is a very inventive psychedelic tinged pop album, Martin still performs Hardy's England live to this day.

The bonus tracks include Newspeak, which contains some blistering keyboards from Howard Jones.

At this time Martin Ansell was also working with both Tom Robinson (live and on the hit single War Baby) and Captain Sensible (on the hit single Glad It's All Over).
