As anyone with knowledge for such things will tell you Anthony Phillips was a founder member of the British Rock band Genesis. Anthony recorded the albums From Genesis To Revelation and Trespass and also performed a great many gigs with the band before deciding to leave the band following a particularly bad bout of stage fright and also suffering a debilitating bout of bronchial pneumonia. Following his departure from Genesis Anthony set about improving his arranging skills and also improving his piano playing. Within 18 months of leaving the band however Anthony was working once again with Mike Rutherford in a song writing capacity. Some of the material for Anthony's first solo album The Geese And The Ghost was written during this period and in fact some of the material written during the years 1970 - 1977 was contained on the Archive Collection Volume One. Volume two of the series sets out to broaden the picture and the material contained on this double album comes from various periods of Anthony's career between 1971 and 1988.The album includes not only alternate versions of some of some well known songs but also includes material from Anthony's work for film and TV and some demos for the musical 'Alice', co-written by Ant and Richard Scott. The tracks have all been re mastered for release and the album booklet contains contributions from long time Anthony Phillips fan and editor of the Genesis website The Waiting Room. Original Genesis drummer Chris Stewart and Anthony Phillips also contribute to the extensive notes within the booklet. Some of the tracks will also be of interest to Genesis fans as they contain performances from Mike Rutherford alongside Ant and also John Silver on a track which was the first time the two former Genesis members had played together since the recording of the first Genesis album From Genesis To Revelation. As a companion release to Archive Volume One this will be an essential purchase for both fans of Anthony Phillips and fans of the early Genesis sound.
