Phil Miller. Elton Dean. Fred Baker Jim Dvorak. Pip Pyle.

IN CAHOOTS' third album was recorded and engineered by Gerard I'Homme at his Gimini studios near Paris. Under his supervision Phil's team have produced their best recorded work to date. There are 7 tunes on offer, the lion's share from Phil. Five very different pieces from this hard to pidgeon-hole composer and one each from Fred Baker and Elton Dean. A glance at the sleeve notes may surprise you. There is no-one occupying the piano stool. Phil's midi guitar provides all the necessary textures and backdrops the music requires, which contributes to the uncluttered sound. The CD catches the quintet in exuberant mood, the performances assured and fluent with the feel of having been captured live, first-take. Whilst maintaining all the characteristics which make IN CAHOOTS so distinctive, RECENT DISCOVERIES presents them in a package which might just give them the airplay they need and the widespread recognition they deserve.
