White Town were formed in 1989, after witnessing a brilliant Pixies show. With a guitar, bass and drum set up they went on to support Primal Scream, The Family Cat and the Sea Urchins.
By 1994 White Town consisted of Jyoti Mishra who had now moved into a more sample - based electro pop direction, releasing the album "Socialism, Sexism and Sexuality" on the American Parasol label.
All White Town releases were now recorded and self produced at the home 8 track studio, including the international hit single "Your Woman". Mark and Lard were presenting Radio One's Breakfast Show, they played the single constantly, as did their fellow DJ Simon Mayo. This resulted in a major label deal and an international number one single and hit album in eight countries, including Britain in February 1997.
Combined sales for the single "Your Woman" and album "Women In Technology" reached over 1,000,000 copies worldwide.
Within a year, due to major label politics, White Town had been dropped and Bzangy Groink was formed.
Peek & Poke was written and recorded in Jyoti's home studio in East Anglia and is a fine example of synth - pop, not unlike the work of Depeche Mode, Human League, John Foxx and Heaven 17.
