The kings of Space Rock have been captured live in 1976 with this brilliant recording of a memorable tour.

This particular recording is very special as the band are joined by legendary vocalist Bob Calvert. Hawkwind go through their paces playing classics from that period which will be a must for all those in their extensive fanbase.

Specially mastered for CD , a double package which comes complete with a full colour reproduction of Hawkwind's 1976 tour program.

Hawkwind have a high profile, attracting a lot of press attention especially with recent sell out concerts at Brixton Academy and at the Astoria London.

Reviews
Two CD's a total of 84 minutes of a certain Hawkwind tour, thought by many to have been lost forever into obscurity. Must admit, this is so much more enjoyable than what I had expected. Not a perfect sounding recording, but in my humble opinion that's what makes it so much fun. Some songs on here I've heard live versions of, like "Paradox", "Chronoglide Skyway", "Wind Of Change", "Back On The Streets", and "Kerb Crawler". Not to mention the really happening unreleased track "Time For Sale" (which really caught me off guard).

This was co-founder Nik Turner's last tour with the band before being sacked. Some nice HW staples are present, such as "Brainstorm". "Uncle Sam's On Mars" and "sonic Attack". This incredible gig took place in October 1976 at the Hammersmith Odeon. Love these archive recordings: Nifty 14-Page mini-program like booklet with exclusive artwork, photos, etc.

Release #5 (going by the catalogue number!) from the huge van load of Hawk Records, and there's still quite a few to come out yet. This one, I presume, was recorded in 1976, and other than the tracklisting on the back of the cd case, there's no information whatsoever. Ironically, as it often does, on the cd it states See Inlay For Track Details. The booklet that comes with this double cd is crammed with photos and related 'products', like a cover shot of Mike Moorcock and Mike Butterworth's first book from the series, The Time Of The Hawklords. No musicians are mentioned, who played, or indeed anything at all. It's obvious who is on there, and many of the tracks are pretty fine. One or two very familiar songs, the inevitable Brainstorm and Sonic Attack. However, the album's saving grace is the inclusion of songs like Wind Of Change, Chronoglide Freeway, plus the Intro as well as the oddly titled Instrumental, never known Hawkwind be short for a title before? Album-wise, this double set, whilst no where near Space Ritual standard, is a fair bet, but as far as info is concerned, it's pretty bad. Still, it might well keep guessing as to who's what and what's what - maybe....?

This 85 minute release documents a Hawkwind concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon on October 5, 1976. A prime gig too, featuring the nimble talents of Dave Brock, Bob Calvert, Nik Turner, Simon House, Simon King, Alan Powell, and Paul Rudolph.

You'll find your fave Hawkwind classics from that period here too: "Reefer Madness", "Brainstorm", "Uncle Sam's on Mars", "Hassan I Sahba", and "Sonic Attack", along with the more rare (yet thoroughly vital) tunes: "Paradox", "Chronoglide Skyway", "Steppenwolf", "Back on the Streets", and a ten-minute rendition of the ultra-rare "Time for Sale."

Expect raw, unbridled spacerock, exploding with searing guitar, wailing saxophone, commanding vocals, thunderous drumming, rumbling bass, sultry violin, and electrifying synthesizers. 1976 was a time for Hawkwind to tighten their sound, refining their signature fusion of science fiction and music into a unity that remains today as a pinnacle for other bands to strive for but rarely achieve.

Detail freaks might notice that this concert is the same one found on Griffin Records' "Thrilling Hawkwind Adventures" CD released a few years ago. "Atomhenge 76", though, gives you 32 more minutes of this stupendous performance.
