Bridget Wishart is best known as the only female singer for legendary space rock band Hawkwind. She was part of their crew as singer and stage performer from 1989 to 1991. She appeared on the albums Space Bandits, Palace Springs, California Brainstorm, Live at Glastonbury 1990 and among others the Hawkwind Live Legends DVD. Spirits Burning is "...Don Falcone's 'gathering in space' of musicians from the global space rock community and beyond" Aural Innovations, Aug 2006 "Spirits Burning is all about celebrating what space rock is and can be. Past CDs have included a virtual who's who of the genre. Everyone from Daevid Allen to Robert Calvert to Mike Moorcock. And Earth Born, our fifth CD, continues this rich tradition." Don Falcone Bridget says, "Spirits Burning collaborations cover a wide range of sounds.." For Earth Born, it's "space rock via mellow, psychedelic tunefulness, thru to a Bristol sound reminiscent of Massive Attack and including a melodic sensuous Kate Bush/Peter Gabriel feel...sound interesting?...sure is!!!" Alongside Bridget and Don, the crew for Earth Born includes Gong's Daevid Allen, Hawkwind family members Simon House, Alan Davey, Richard Chadwick, Steve Swindells, and Jerry Richards, plus members of great bands such as Jefferson Starship, Karda Estra, and Citizen Fish. The CD has been expertly mastered by Paul Cobbold who is well known for his work with Hawkwind. Reviews "This time the international space/prog etc. rock project led by Don Falcone from the US is not heading for the stars but concentrates to the magic of Mother Earth herself. There are no de facto hard rocking tracks on this album but the music is rather peaceful, soft and electro-acoustic taking influences from for example pop, jazz, electro and trip hop. At times I’m reminded of Kate Bush or Peter Gabriel, among others. The ex-Hawkwind singer Bridget Wishart is involved in every song, also as a writer, and she has also made the cover art. Her lovely voice still is very similar to the Hawkwind days, only more multifaceted. There are also many other present and past Hawkwind members involved: Alan Davey (bass on two tracks), Richard Chadwick (drum programming on one track, apache drum on another), Simon House (violin on two tracks), Steve Swindells (keyboards on one track) and Jerry Richards (lead guitar on one track). Strongly present is of course also Daevid Allen who has performed on every Spirits Burning album and 20 other musicians are featured, as well. ”Earth Born”, the first track on the album, is a beautiful, touching and hypnotic number and without question one of the best on the CD. It has some acoustic guitar, programmed drums, Alan’s soft (!) bass and airy keyboards. The track really starts to move after a while and the vocals are very mystical and earthy. This is a totally amazing track that also has a pretty psychedelic mood. “One Way Trip” is a bit electro-styled, exciting number that could well be by Anubian Lights. Nice synthesizer stuff. “Always” is a Massive Attack/dub styled, pleasant, soft and slow track and the violin by Simon House adds to the melancholic atmosphere. “Sarah’s Surprise” is a mellow track with a jazzy bebob rhythm that has piano and lots of nice guitar layers from for example Daevid Allen. DJ Astro, Psychotropic Zone www.unimeri.com/PsychotropicZone/"...it would be great to see some of this stuff performed live. Hopefully this SB-Wishart joint project is not a one-off; I would certainly like to hear more from where this came from."
