British born guitarist Snowy White (Born Terence Charles White) first became interested in music at the age of eleven when he was inspired by blues musicians Buddy Guy and B.B. King. He pursued his blues style in a number of bands however during the seventies Snowy made a reputation for himself playing numerous sessions for a wide variety of musicians such as Al Stewart, Cliff Richard and Peter Green. More famously Snowy toured as second guitarist with Pink Floyd augmenting the bands sound on the tours to promote the Animals and The Wall albums. By late 1979 however tiring of the session scene Snowy accepted the offer to join the rock band Thin Lizzy. Snowy recorded two albums with Thin Lizzy (Chinatown and Renegade) and completed a number of successful tours before deciding that the bands music and more importantly their lifestyle wasn't to his taste.

He formed his own band featuring drummer Richard Bailey and bassist Kuma Harada. With this band he recorded his first solo album entitled white Flames. A single lifted from that album (Bird Of Paradise) became a surprise hit reaching the British top ten in early 1984.

From here Snowy White recorded a number of blues based albums all of which were warmly received by the blues audience his records are aimed at.

His latest album retains that blues feel and contains performances from his latest band, which features Richard Bailey on drums, Walter Latupeirisa on bass and ex Jeff Beck Group member Max Middleton on keyboards.

Who keyboardist John 'Rabbit' Bundrick also appears on a number of tracks playing a Hammond Organ, including a brand new recording of Snowy's hit single Bird Of Paradise which was recorded in 2003. Snowy also raises a tip of the hat to another of his influences Peter Green with a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Black Magic Woman.

NOTE: Not for sale in GERMANY or PORTUGAL.

Reviews

"Before you ask yourself "Wasn't he the guitarist with Thin Lizzy"
and assume this album is a rock album, let me reassure you it
isn't. Snowy White is actually a very accomplished guitarist, who
has covered many styles, including having played with Peter Green
in the early 1970's, then after touring with Pink Floyd, went in
to the studio to record the (now collectors item)  Peter Green
LP: "In the Skies". All of this before his tenure with Thin
Lizzy! This album is recorded with his band, The White Flames,
which is a four-piece outfit. There is some great musicianship on
this album with a fair mixture of styles. There is a reworking of
his old classic (yes old, it was first released in 1983!) Bird of
paradise. There is a good version of "Black Magic Woman" but the
track that I just kept singing was track 4, "What I'm Searching
For". This isn't an immediate album, one that you instantly rave
about, but after three of four listens, you really appreciate it.
The first time you listen to "Black Magic Woman" and "What I'm
Searching For" you find on display some Latin rhythms reminiscent
of Santana but mellower, and these take a little time to sink in.
Once they do, they are wonderful. There are more rocky tracks
such as "This Time Of My Life" which makes you dig out "Fire" by
Jimi Hendrix and two tracks that musicians can relate to, Angel
Inside You (parts 1 and 2), that express what being a working
musician is all about. The recording quality is excellent and it
really allows all Snowy's subtle touches to come through. The
album ends on the mellow "Sweet Bluesmaker" which just chills you
out. A great album."
