John Payne Biography
John Payne is a British vocalist and guitarist who has worked in the rock business for more than twenty five years. Having performed with a number of high profile artists including Roger Daltrey, for whom he sang backing vocals on the album ‘ Under A raging Moon’, John was also briefly the vocalist with ELO II. For fifteen years John was perhaps best known as the vocalist and bassist with British Rock Band, Asia. In that time John wrote and produced seven studio albums including ‘Aqua’, ‘Aria’, ‘Arena,’ Aura ‘and ‘Silent Nation’, which found success across the world. He also played countless concerts with the band in Europe, America, South America and Asia.
Following the split with Asia, John formed a new band featuring Guthrie Govan and Jay Schellen (Also from the last line up of Asia), entitled, GPS. The band released the debut album ‘Window to the Soul’, which was followed up by dates in the U.K. , Europe and Japan. In 2007 John joined the cast of Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of the Worlds’, playing the part of Parson Nathaniel.
In 2010 John Payne will be leading Asia on an extensive touring schedule in support of a new studio album which will be released in the first half of the year.
