Steve Hackett Biography
Steve Hackett began his professional career at the start of the seventies and the first album that many people will now possibly own that features Steve Hackett’s guitar talent is the album by Quiet World entitled The Road original copies of which are highly collectible.
It is perhaps however that Steve is best known for his tenure with British rock band Genesis. Steve joined the band in December 1970 following the departure of former guitarist and founder member of Genesis Anthony Phillips. The first Genesis album to feature Steve Hackett was Nursery Cryme released in late 1971.
For the next seven years Steve would make a huge contribution to Genesis and their slow but sure climb to huge success as a band. Following the albums Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, A Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering Steve decided to leave the band in the summer of 1977, making the Live album Seconds Out his Swansong and continue with a solo career which had started with his first solo release Voyage Of The Acolyte.
Further albums followed through until the mid eighties including Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings Defector, Cured, Highly Strung, Bay of Kings and Til We Have Faces. In 1986 Steve Hackett joined forces with Steve Howe in the Band GTR. Despite the debut album was a big success both in Europe and America Steve Hackett left the band following the first bout of touring and prior to a second album being recorded. Since that time Steve Hackett has continued with a successful solo career releasing albums and touring regularly.
