Bruford Levin Upper Extremities Biography
Bruford Levin Upper Extremities is the band formed by Bill Bruford and Tony Levin in 1998. Both musicians first came together in King Crimson in the early eighties, and both had long, varied and distinguished careers before then. Bruford had previously been a member of Yes, King Crimson, and Genesis, and led his own bands Bruford and Earthworks. Tony Levin had previously played with Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel and also played on the sessions for John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double fantasy album. This ‘loose-limbed, largely improvised quartet’, as Bruford describes B.L.U.E. in his autobiography - was completed by guitar-terrorist David Torn and trumpeter Chris Botti. The music the band performed was an unworldly blend of rock, electronica, jazz, and ambient music. Bruford Levin Upper Extremities recorded two albums, one self-titled studio album released in 1999 and a live album entitled Blue Nights released in 2000, and both were immediately popular with and well beyond the King Crimson audience.
