Percy Howard's Meridiem Biography
Meridiem is an ongoing musical project generated and sustained by Northern California singer-songwriter, producer and writer Percy Howard. Over the years Percy has collaborated with some of the most interesting musicians in the worlds of pop and rock music, including Bill Laswell, Vernon Reid, Buckethead, Jarboe, Happy Rhodes, Fred Frith, Charles Hayward, Trey Gunn, and Robert Rich. Meridiem was formed in 1997 when Percy invited Bill Laswell to work with him along with drummer Charles Hayward who had previously been a member of This Heat. Bill Laswell of course has worked with many artists including, Daevid Allen and New York Gong, Herbie Hancock, and countless others, but perhaps most famously, Brian Eno and David Byrne on their album ‘My Life In The Bush of Ghosts’.
The project released the album ‘Full Catastrophe’ in 2000, and features the talents of founder Percy Howard alongside such stellar musicians as Living Color’s Vernon Reid and King Crimson’s Trey Gunn. Following in the steps of previous Meridiem releases, ‘Full Catastrophe’, manages to blend full on musicianship with structured cacophony. A further album ‘A Pleasant Fiction’ was released in 2004 and includes contributions from guitarist Vernon Reid and former Guns n Roses guitarist Buckethead, as well as Laswell, Jarboe, and DK Dyson. The album has a broad base of influences, which cilminates in an expansive listening experience, blending elements of pop, rock, soul and avant-garde into a sinuous tale of love, betrayal, and submission.
