Mike Oldfield Biography
Mike Oldfield is probably best known the world over for his groundbreaking 1973 album ‘Tubular Bells’. This album not only put Mike Oldfield on the musical map but also launched Richard Branson’s Virgin record label. ‘Tubular Bells’ was an instant success not only with the critics but also with the record buying public and the music from the album also featured in two high profile films; The Exorcist and The Space Movie. Prior to ‘Tubular Bells’, Mike had been a member of Kevin Ayres’ band The Whole World, although he started his professional career in tandem with his sister Sally Oldfield , releasing one folk styled album under the name Sallyangie.
Following ‘Tubular Bells’, Mike released numerous solo albums including ‘Hergest Ridge’, ‘Ommadawn’, ‘Incantations Crisis’ and ‘Platinum’. More recently he has overseen work on the thirty fifth anniversary edition of ‘Tubular Bells’.
