Anthony Phillips is perhaps best known as the original guitarist in Genesis. Ant left the band in 1970 following the release of Trespass. He began his solo career in earnest in the mid seventies with the release of the album The Geese and The Ghost. Since then he has released a number of critically acclaimed albums and forged a loyal and devoted fan base

The music of Anthony Phillips has a wonderfully rich textured feel to it and while it is to be expected to occasionally sound not unlike early Genesis material it would be unfair to put Anthony Phillips into one bag. The recording career of Anthony Phillips takes in a great many styles from rock through to pop and from classical to baroque. Anthony Phillips is also recognised widely as a composer of music for film and television.

Missing Links Volume 4 is the latest release in a series of recordings that have featured some of Anthony Phillips commissioned music for film and television. Tracks include The Golden Road To Samarkand, Promenade, Cascades and Sleeping Giant. As with the three previous volumes of the Missing Links Series volume 4 will be welcomed by the large and dedicated Anthony Phillips fan base.

Both albums have been newly re-mastered for this release and Private Parts & Pieces also features a new extra track in addition to the two included on the previous CD release of the album.

Pathways & Promenades – Missing Links Volume IV by the early Genesis guitarist compiles together for the first time a great amount of tracks that have previously been released on sold-out compilations and also tracks from library releases, no released commercially for the first time. It also includes one totally unreleased track “Halcyon Days” that ends the album in a great way. Personally, I have previously heard only “Promenade” that was on the ultra-rare Double Exposure compilation put together and released by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, No-man etc.) in 1987. All in all, the album has 23 peaceful, beautiful tracks on it mainly played with acoustic guitar, keyboards and piano with some occasional programmed rhythm. I’m sure all the Anthony Phillips fans will enjoy this album and it’s also suitable for other people who are into relaxing instrumental music influenced by classic, New Age, folk and progressive music. This is pretty and fragile stuff.
